 (1) You and your children – a repetitive theme

  1. Salvation, forgiveness and the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:36-40)
  2. Choose life that you and your children may live. (Deuteronomy 30:2, 19)
  3. A flourishing family. (Psalm 115:14)
  4. The next generation. (Psalm 48:12-13; Psalm 78:4)

 

 

(2) The Promise is for you and your children

  1. All age groups, male and female, all ethnic groups. (Acts 2:39; Galatians 3: 26-29; Revelation 7:9-10)
  2. GENERATIONAL BREAKDOWN:
  •    Pre 1945 – Builders
  •    1945 – 1965 - Baby Boomers
  •    1965 – 1976 – Generation X
  •    1976 – 1999 – Millennials
  •    2000 – 2020 – Gen Z

(1) From Brokenness to wholeness: Christ.

  1. Presenting everyone whole in Christ. (Colossians 1:28 NASB)
  2. God lives fully in Christ. (Colossians 2:9 CEV; NIV; LB; NEB; Colossians 1:19 NIV; CEV)
  3. He is the head of the body, the church. (Colossians 1:18 NIV)
  4. He created and is head. (Colossians 1:16; Colossians 2:10) FULNESS AND WHOLENESS IN CHRIST.

 

(2) Christ’s victory and triumph

  1. A public display of victory. (Colossians 2:15; Acts 26:24-27)
  2. He forgave us all our sins. (Colossians 2:13; Romans 6:23)
  3. He cancelled the written code which stood against us and opposed us. (Colossians 2:14 NIV; GNB; Philips)
  4. From law to grace. (John 1:15-18)
  5. He disarmed the powers and authorities. (Colossians 2:15; Joshua 1:7-8)

 

(3) Jesus won the victory and He wants us to share in it

  1. You can share in His resurrection life. (Colossians 2:13; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
  2. The picture of baptism: Death, burial and resurrection. (Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:3-6)
  3. The written code cancelled does not mean that God’s standards have been cancelled. (Colossians 2:14, 11)

 

(4) Continue to share in, and live in Christ’s victory

  1. Just as you received Christ’s victory, continue in Christ’s victory. (Colossians 2:6-7)
  2. Don’t be side tracked. (Colossians 2:8)
  3. The trap of legalism. (Colossians 2:16-17)
  4. The trap of mysticism. (Colossians 2:18)
  5. Stay focussed on Jesus and His victory. (Colossians 2:17)
